Crochet Hat

I decided it was about time I learned to crochet - properly as opposed to doing the twiddly bits on things I've knitted (picot edges and stuff)

So I bought this cute little book:

which is a fantastic, clear and friendly guide to crochet.  Although it's got quite a few patterns in there, I decided to have a go at something I thought I'd wear.  This hat pattern is taken from Kim Hargreaves Breeze book.  It was unravelled more times than I care to mention but in the end it worked and became a wearable, funky hat. 

Airplane Crochet

I'd completely forgotten about this!  It's the crochet I did on the Plane to Barbados.  I'm self taught (from the wonderful Happy Hooker Book) so consider myself more of a beginner at Crochet than anything else - but I have to say that I was rather proud of this.  It wasn't that hard once I got the idea of it and made a lot of it up as I went.  I have vague plans to maybe use it as an embellishment on something but then I seem to have more plans than time at the minute!

Crocheted Flower Cushion

I was a bit jaded from all of the Christmas knitting I've been doing so I wanted something quick gratification and easy to do that would give me a bit of a change.

I found this cushion on sale for £4.00 (bargain!) and had some yarn left in my stash from the sweet pea shawl I'd made on holiday. The color is a beautiful dark turquoise and as I use the shawl as a throw on my lovely new sofa (and yes, it is now safely installed in the living room - but it did take having the window removed first to get it in!) I thought the cushion would go just perfectly - and I was right!

I made some crocheted flowers - very easy, I started off with one using a pattern I found on Midnight Knitter's blog
I used the pattern there for the first one and then played about with the number of stitches for the inner circle, petals, depth of stitches and so on. I imagine you could do numerous different ones without ever having to repeat the exact same pattern.

I then sewed them onto the cushion and I'm really, really pleased with the results.
