I had a lovely day today meeting my expectant mom friend for lunch. It's not often I get to do stuff like that - as you've probably gathered from my posts, I tend to have a lot on the go and really struggle with stopping 'doing' and just 'being'. So today, after a ridiculously hectic week when I just tried to cram too much in, I took some time out and met her for tapas lunch (which was ENORMOUS) and then we had a lovely hour wandering around the shops, looking at frivolous jewlery, overpriced kithchen gadgets (I WANTED the pink chopping board SO badly), and finally had a good amble round our local yarn store. I was in heaven! Good company, getting excited about her impending Mom-hood, and being all girly and giggly squidging the yarns and flicking through pattern books. I swear I get high on the smell of yarn stores (yes, they DO have a smell - it's sort of warm and cottony) and it was such a lovely afternoon I didn't want it to end. What was even better was that we didn't even buy anyting - free retail therapy - how good's that?!
It was really tempting to tell her about the cardigan I'm working on for her baby, but I held firm. I was a bit dissapointed I hadn't finished it in time for today - it's so nearly done I think another evening in front of the TV will do it. I'm going to have quite a bit of yarn left so I think I'll make a pair of matching booties too. I've found a great pattern for some cute crocheted ones with little button fastenings.
I'm definately feeling the tick tock on the biological clock. Seeing my friend has only made it worse. I'd hoped that she'd be telling me tales of her bad back, heart burn and swollen ankles, but she was so relaxed and smiling that I was positively jealous! They're even planning on moving house in the next 2 weeks (she's due in 3) and she's not even getting stressed out by that - God bless pregnancy hormones!
So, tonight I'm going to knuckly down and get the cardigan finished and then I'll post some pictures - promise!
